State House Redistricting - District 11 (HD-11)

State House - District 11
Current Rep – Open (Bob Costan, D-Dearborn Heights, termed out)

Declared Candidates:
GOP - Kathleen Kopczyk (R-Garden City)
Dem - David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights)

Update 8-30-2012 - Knezek won the primary.

Update 5-25-2012 - Interesting geographic battle here. One Dearborn Heights and Inkster candidate, two Garden City candidates, and nobody from Westland or the small Livonia portion.

2010 Results - Old District (16th)
Bob Costan - 14,715
Michael Mullins - 7,151

This district is mostly derived of the old 16th, with a little bit of the old 17th. It takes on a different part of Dearborn Heights than the old 17th and drops the Allen Park Portion. It picks up a small part of Livonia and Westland, keeps Garden City, and Inkster. This is a solidly democrat district. Costan won every portion. Dearborn Heights used to sometimes be competitive, although not recently. Inkster is well over 85% dem. This is still a Garden City/Inkster based district.

I can't run precinct numbers until there are elections here under the new borders, but according to an approximate map in Dave's Redistricting, it went about 70% for Obama, and was 25% black, mostly due to Inkster.

The primary could be interesting however with the open seat.
