State Senate Redistricting - District 6 (SD-06)

State Senate - District 6
Current Reps – Glenn Anderson (D-Westland) and Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-Taylor)
Anderson is term limited out.

2010 Results - Old Districts
Glenn Anderson - 43,849
John Pastor - 37,001

Hoon-Yung Hopgood - 37,845
Ken Larkin - 25,280

This district combines much of the old 6th, old 7th, and old 8th districts. Wayne County loses a seat, and Detroit districts expanded outward. At the same time, the GOP stopped pushing hard for two districts which is tougher and tougher. They only did so in 02-06, losing one seat to Glenn Anderson. Hopgood's district was Basham's district keeping this seat in Taylor.

The old 6th was Garden City, Livonia, Redford, and Westland. The old 7th covers Belleville, Brownstown Twp, Canton, Flat Rock, Gibralter, Grosse Ile, Huron Twp, Northville, Plymouth, Rockwood, Sumpter Twp, Trenton, Van Buren Twp, and Woodhaven. The old 8th was Allen Park, Ecorse, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Riverview, Romulus, Southgate, Taylor, Wayne, and Wyandotte.

The new 6th covers Westland, Van Buren Twp, Belleville, Sumpter Twp, Romulus, Huron Twp, Taylor, Most of Brownstown Twp, Flat Rock, and Rockwood.

This area leans democrat, but state senate numbers are interesting. Anderson won easily outside of Livonia, which is in the new 7th district. Colbeck in the 7th almost won Brownstown, Flat Rock, and Rockwood, and did win Gibralter, Huron Township, Trenton, and Woodhaven. All except Huron Township are normally strongly democrat. Ken Larkin beat Hopgood in Allen Park and Riveriew. Those aren't in the district, but shows Hopgood ran behind most democrats in his old district.

Outside of a scandal, this district is probably safe for the democrats. Kerry had a 22,000 vote spread, and Obama 38-39K.
