This district combines much of the old 6th and old 7th.

The old 6th was Garden City, Livonia, Redford, and Westland. The old 7th covers Belleville, Brownstown Twp, Canton, Flat Rock, Gibralter, Grosse Ile, Huron Twp, Northville, Plymouth, Rockwood, Sumpter Twp, Trenton, Van Buren Twp, and Woodhaven.

The new 7th covers Northville and Plymouth, both cities and township, Canton, Livonia, and Wayne. It's a lot more Republican leaning than the old district which is bluing quickly with Belleville and Van Buren Twp becoming base areas for the dems. Picking up Livonia helps, and picking up Wayne hurts.

This district isn't safe, but it does lean GOP, despite 2008. It can be competitive though, and can not be taken for granted. The GOP lost the State Rep 20th district for two terms. In 06, the dems took the portion of Canton, Northville City, Plymouth City, and Wayne for this seat. In 08, add Northville and Plymouth Townships. In 10, the GOP took the 20th back, but lost its portion of Canton and Wayne. The dems took the 21st in both 08 and 10, but lost the portion of Canton.

Overall, I'd consider this district a slight lean, but competitive. If it opens up, the bench favors the GOP with John Walsh, although Corriveau and Slavens could be tough challengers.
