State House Redistricting - District 12 (HD-12)

State House - District 12
Current Rep – Douglas Geiss (D-Taylor)

Declared Candidates:
GOP - Joanne Michalik (R-Romulus)
Dem - Douglas Geiss (D-Taylor)

2010 Results - Old District (22nd)
Douglas Geiss - 14,296
Darrell MacNeill - 6,748

Update 5-25-2012 - No primary here in airport country.

This district did not change much with redistricting. The old and new district both covered Taylor and Romulus. The only change was adding parts of Van Buren Township as this district had to expand due to population loss. This is Metro Airport country with a high number of union workers, and is thus democrat. Romulus is now about 50% black, and once competitive Van Buren Township is increasingly minority and now safely democrat. Taylor is the heart of union country.

The new district is approximately 68% for Obama from the numbers in Dave's Redistricting. Taylor went 60.55% for Kerry and Romulus 72% for Kerry, so you can figure out how competitive this district can be. Geiss remains safe.
