Population – 17,370 (2000 Census)
Demographics – 97.65% White, .13% Black, .56% American Indian, .27% Asian, .31% Some other Race, 1.06% Two or more races, .96% Hispanic or Latino(of any race)
County Seat – Bessemer (pop 2,148)

Gogebic County is the Westernmost county in Michigan and is one of the last remining democrat strongholds of the UP, although it is not as democrat as it used to be at the top of the ticket. The main city is Ironwood.

Gogebic County prefers social conservative democrats, although they will vote for liberal democrats as well over most republicans. This is the second most democrat county in the UP, behind Marquette. Part of the reason is pork, and another part is unions. Joe Mack represented this area for years and brought home the bacon. Even Butch Hollowell won here, so we have a lot of work to do here.
