State House Redistricting - District 24 (HD-24)

State House - District 24
Current Rep – Anthony Forlini (R-Harrison Twp)

Declared Candidates:
Rep - Anthony Forlini (R-Harrison Twp)
Dem - Phillip Kurczewski (D-Clinton Twp)

Update 8-30-2012 - Kurczewski beat former Macomb Commissioner Carey Torrice in the primary.

Update 5-25-2012 - This one got interesting. Former Macomb County Commissioner Carey Torrice is running. Just another day in Macomb County politics.

2010 Results - Old District (24th)
Anthony Forlini - 16,552
Sarah Roberts - 15,516

Redistricting changes this district in a major way. The old district was Lake Twp/Grosse Pointe Shores, St Clair Shores, and Harrison Twp. The new district drops GPS, St Clair Shores, and picks up Northern Clinton Twp and Southern Macomb Twp.

It's a tough read. Clinton Township overall leans democrat, but has a mix of strong GOP and Dem areas. Macomb Twp leans more GOP, but it's stronger areas are in another district. Harrison Township leans GOP, but not overwhelmingly so.

Overall the district went for Obama by about 1200 votes, which should make this district slightly more safer for Forlini. Harrison Township split 50/50 going for Obama by about 100 votes. St Clair Shores went by about 2500 votes. Clinton Township overall went by about 6600. Macomb Township overall went for McCain by about 600.

This district is a real tough one to read though. I'd say slight GOP lean with an incumbent, but I've leaned over a period of years. Nothing comes easy in Macomb County.
