Otsego County took a right turn in 04 much like most of Northern Michigan did outside of the big money areas near Traverse City. Bush won every municipality here easily by 9% or more.

Redistricting affected the state senate and state house district here, although the congressional district did not change. The state senate district is now the swing Alpena/Midland district instead of the Traverse City based district. The state house district now covers northwest Michigan and loses its Northeastern parts. The state senate district is competitive and Otsego County is key since it is a long ways from Midland, and Alpena style democrats are sellable in Otsego county where Midland is viewed as a big city. Andy Neumann ran 3% ahead of Granholm here.

Otsego County is fast growing, and is becoming a second GOP base in the northlands.
