It's almost 6:30 as I type this. There's still time to vote if you haven't done so. Vote "NO" on the Paul Scott recall if you're up in the current 51st district (Fenton, Linden, Grand Blanc). Don't let the MEA get a scalp. Also, if you are in Howell, the best choices are Phil Campbell, Doug Heins, and Hertich. In Brighton Schools, Nick Fiani and Greg Rassel are the best picks.
In other election news, two democrats have announced challenges to our congressmen. In my own 8th District, Lance Enderle is back. He was the guy who took one for the team when Kande what's his name quit when things weren't easy, left town, and went back to his hometown in the Philly suburbs. On a level of candidate, I'd put Enderle as a slightly better version of Bob Alexander. He'll work hard. He's not a joke like the last guy, but I don't think he's going to get millions sent in from DC to help him. Enderle wins only if Rogers beats himself, or if the top of the ticket drags us down 1974 style.
The other challenger is in the new 11th District. Syed Taj, a doctor from Canton is a township trustee challenging either McCotter or Kowall. The democrats are hoping Taj will be their version of Dan Benishek who won in the 1st district. There hasn't been many East Indian Congressmen. I can think of one off the top of my head years ago. However, two are currently governors. Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley. Redistricting made it tougher for Taj, because there isn't as much of a blue base in the 11th as there used to be. Garden City, Redford, Belleville, Wayne, and Westland are gone. However, there's a sizable growing Indian population, along with those of Indian ancestry in this district. Novi, Northville, Canton, and Troy. The Asian population is only 7.6% of the population, but it is growing, and many of them are Indians. Will that factor in this district? Possibly. I think the bigger factor is how the Kowall and McCotter primary goes and how nasty it gets. Geography may be a big deal in this new district. Kowall's from Oakland County. McCotter and Taj are from Wayne County. This will be one to watch.
