Antrim County is a fast growing county in Northwestern Michigan. It is a mix of rural areas, and vacation homes on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Torch Lake (Along Lake Michigan) is the home of so-called “working class hero” Michael Moore. Despite Michael Moore, Antrim County is a Republican base county unless the candidates are abandoned by the party. Antrim County is northeast of Traverse City, south of Charlevoix, and west of Gaylord/Waters.

While this is a base county in most cases, this county shows how popular Bart Stupak really is with people in both parties. He faced strong challenges in 1998 with Michelle McManus and 2000 with Chuck Yob. McManus was held to 49% in her own part of the state(she’s from nearby Leelanau County). This is despite Geoffrey Fieger leading the ticket. Stupak won Antrim in 2000 against Chuck Yob. Neither of those candidates were weak as McManus was a state representative (and currently a State Senator), and Yob is the RNC committeman. Redistricting hardly changed Antrim County. A high turnout here is needed for us to take back the Governor’s mansion and one of the senate seats. One last thing – I don’t think Mikey Moore helped Kerry much in Torch Lake.
