Republican Michigander’s prognosis – Safe Democrat

District covers:
Part of Allen Park and Dearborn Heights. All of Inkster and Garden City

This is a safe Democrat district and the most democrat district in suburban Wayne County. Most of that is due to about 30% of the district being Inkster – which is 88% Democrat. The Allen Park portion here went 54% for Kerry. The Dearborn Heights portion went 56.05%. Garden City went 54.31% for Kerry. Sometimes Dearborn Heights is competitive, although it took a strong left turn in 04. I suspect it is because of Detroiters moving there, as is the case in Redford. Garden City has been union democrat for years and years. Allen Park is still competitive, but surrounded by too many democrats to matter in a state rep contest. Inskter puts this district completely out of reach outside of a miracle.

I enjoy reading your website, it is honest and intelligent. I look forward to your continued commentary on Michigan Politics. It would be nice if Allen Park were not split in such a manner as to be watered down in two strongly democratic leaning districts.
