Brownstown Township, Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, Huron Township, Rockwood, Sumpter Township, Woodhaven
This is a mostly Downriver district covering Southernmost Wayne County. Huron Township is moving our way and flipped from Gore to Bush (50.77%) in 2004. Grosse Ile is a Republican stronghold going 62.38% for Bush. Those are both must wins if we are going to contest this district.
The democrats won the rest. Gibraltar and Woodhaven are competitive. Flat Rock, Rockwood, and Brownstown have moved our way, but are still solidly democrat. Sumpter Township is the most democrat and still almost 60%. If we can win Gibraltar and Woodhaven, and make some major inroads in Brownstown (1/4 of the voters), we have a shot at this one.
This is somewhat like the Canton District in reverse. We almost took this in 2002 and have a decent shot in 2008 when it is an open seat (Especially if the democrat is an Ann Arbor style liberal). We have an outside shot at this in 2006, and should contest it.
